More rods are probably broken from issues with ferrule fit than any other reason. Even top-of-the-line fly rods can fall victim to ferrule problems if the rod sections aren't put together firmly and checked occasionally for slippage. A light application of ferrule wax can help to achieve a firm fit and minimize slipping. Ferrule wax is a great accessory to always keep in your tackle bag.
