The piece earned its name for the rabbit's ecstatic pose and thanks to the reputation our furry friends have for prolific procreation. Rabbits certainly do seem to live an ecstatic existence in the moment, and this carved ivory pendant captures our subject in a rapture as he lifts his face to the sun. The sterling silver spiraling details featured in this pendant are a Zealandia signature. You'll find them throughout our jewelry, always placed with careful attention to where the curling spiral directs the eye. Here the curls call attention to the rabbit's face and soft ears. The curling spiral motif is also mimicked in the grass detail at the rabbit's feet. The rabbit is hand carved from fossilized mammoth ivory, an ancient material dating back some 15,000 years. Mammoth ivory lies in permafrost or the earth for most of its life. The earth colors it a range of organic tones from soft cream to warm caramel, making it an ideal material for representing animals and the natural world. This carved ivory pendant is finished with two faceted peridot accents that evoke the rabbit's verdant playground. Peridot is known as the stone of abundance, prosperity, emotional harmony, and happiness.
