Alternanthera Bettzickiana Red

Common Name: Alternanthera Bettzickiana Red, Calico Plant Alternanthera bettzickiana ‘Red’, also known as the Calico Plant, is a bold and adaptable species perfect for terrariums, vivariums, ponds, and bog gardens. Its vibrant pink to red stems and green to yellow foliage can turn a vivid red under intense light, making it a standout feature in any setup. While it's only a semi-aquatic plant, it’s sometimes used temporarily in aquariums due to its eye-catching hues and resilience.  When submerged in aquariums, the plant can thrive for several months, developing roots and moderate growth. Over time, transitioning it to emersed growth is essential for its health. In emersed conditions, the plant flourishes with high humidity and consistently moist soil. Its adaptability and stunning coloration make Alternanthera bettzickiana ‘Red’ a popular choice for hobbyists seeking a unique plant to complement their setups. Notes: This plant is semi-aquatic and will only survive submerged for a period of time. This plant is best suited long-term in paludariums, vivariums, ponds, or other high-humidity environments. Alternanthera provides great coverage for sensitive species and are relatively easier choices for beginners who are looking for colored aquarium plants. Do not make drastic changes to the aquarium. Unstable parameters will result in melt and rotting of the aquarium plant. Please be sure to remove this plant from its pot. Remove the cotton surrounding the roots and plant into a quality substrate. For instructions on how to properly prep "potted" aquarium plants, click here.
