Photo Print of Gyana Prabha Ghosh: Mother of Paramhansa Yogananda

Gyana Prabha Ghosh, the mother of Paramhansa Yogananda, was a woman of deep spiritual devotion. Her spiritual journey was blessed when Lahiri Mahasaya himself initiated her into Kriya Yoga. This is her photograph—not the painting often mistaken for it—and it perfectly captures her saintly sweetness and spirit. In it, she projects the presence that led Yogananda to revere her as a "very great saint" and a "vessel of the Divine Mother." Her eyes, described as radiating a perfect "balance of Love and Wisdom," are meditated upon by some followers as a manifestation of the Divine Mother.
