Allopathy, by Laura Carter

Poetry, chapbook, 28 pages, from Bottlecap Features. This chapbook (with its carefully chosen title) is all about the health and healing (and sometimes, ironically) fear-inducing of the inner world. Where does this world live? Is there such a thing, and who would relate to it? I hope this makes sense, and the poems feeling their way into someone’s brain would be the arbiter of poems that ask these questions. While I don’t really feel myself to be religious all that often, I do believe that words and syllables and all of that (language as we know it) can be part of a conversation between reader and writer. I realize I use language about psalms and kings, and all other states of mind and grace. (Spinoza’s god even makes an appearance.) These poems are from the edge, to the edge. And hopefully not too egoic. Laura Carter lives in Atlanta, where she earned her M.F.A. in poetry in 2007. Since then, she has published several chapbooks, numerous individual poems, and many, many book reviews. She used to host many different reading series in Atlanta, and has since (especially since COVID) taken up hiking or walking around town. She lives on the west side of the city with her cat, Zoe.
