Millenium Allium

Like summer fireworks for your landscape! The Millenium Allium (Allium senescens 'Millenium') explodes in late summer with long-lasting, beautiful lilac-purple blooms! This hardy perennial bulb is easy to care for, and will fill your garden with color and uniquely shaped flowers! Also known as a flowering or ornamental Onion, unlike most Alliums that flower in the spring, Millennium bursts into bloom in late summer, extending your enjoyment of these unique round globe-shaped flowers! You'll have no shortage of bees, butterflies, and beneficial pollinators clamoring to get to these pollen and nectar-rich flowers! They may not have a nice smell, but these non-edible onion relatives don't smell oniony unless you crush the foliage. This does make them deer and rabbit resistant though! Hardy throughout a wide range of USDA planting zones 4 to 8, Millennium Allium can reach up to 20 inches tall when in flower, with clumps of lush greenery spreading 10 to 15 inches wide at maturity. Landscape Application: Planting several Millenium throughout your perennial bed or Cottage garden to paint your landscape with pops of purple in the summer sun! Must haves for pollinator gardens and perfect for cut flower borders, the flowers last a long time! And after, you are left with curious round seedheads that look great in dried arrangements or add interest to your beds and borders! While in bloom, you will be treated to deep lavender flowers atop tall stems. The 1.5-inch round clusters of purple blooms will seem to hover over the foliage, like little fireworks exploding over long waving blades of grass-like leaves. Pop a few into pots and mixed planters, or let these perennial bulbs ramble freely through sunny garden areas and en masse. Equally suited for the informal garden or the formal landscape, it all comes down to how you use these plants! Did we mention kids love these whimsical blooms? Once the flowers fade, try spray painting the seed heads for pops of color around the garden! Clump Forming Edging, Specimens, Container Thrillers, Summer Color & Interest #ProPlantTips for Care: Alliums love full sun but in hot climates can also tolerate a touch of afternoon shade. Plant in enriched, well-drained soil and provide just enough water to get established. Fall-planted bulbs are reliable bunching perennials that need to be divided every 3-5 years to maintain the clump's vigor. Deadhead the flower heads back when they fade (or spray paint them funky colors for summer interest and dried decor). There is no worry since Millenium rarely reseeds. Do leave the foliage in place to make food for the perennial bulb and more flowers next year. Once the leaves turn yellow you can trim them down cleanly at the ground level in the autumn.
