Crepe, or Plantation Rubber, is a natural material that’s predominantly made from latex tapped from trees like the Pará rubber tree. After being harvested in liquid form from the tree, the raw latex is then coagulated to form a semi-solid substance, and then crushed, pressed, and rolled into sheets using a series of machines. Please read before you place the order Alden shoes are crafted with attention to detail in their Massachusetts factory.  They still use machines that are decades old—some more than 100 years old—to preserve the beautiful traditional details seen in the good old days.  It's important to note that due to the handmade process, some minor imperfections may occur because they're not bench-made by high-tech modern machines with that high precision. These imperfections are part of the unique character of the shoes and should not be seen as flaws. Just like our feet, no two shoes are exactly the same, and none is perfect. If you have any concerns about quality control, we're more than happy to provide pictures before you make a purchase. We want to ensure that you're completely satisfied with your Alden shoes.
