Aku Bone - Classic

The history of aku, or skipjack tuna, in Hawaii is deeply intertwined with the islands' culture, economy, and sustenance. For centuries, Hawaiian fishermen skillfully navigated the vast Pacific waters, employing traditional techniques like palu ahi (chumming) to lure and catch aku. This prized fish was not just a source of nourishment but also a symbol of community, as its abundance brought people together for feasts and celebrations. Today, aku remains a vital part of Hawaii's culinary identity, featured in local dishes like poke and sashimi. Its relevance extends beyond the plate, serving as a living connection to the ancestral practices that have sustained Hawaiian communities for generations, and a reminder of the importance of preserving these traditions in the face of modern challenges. Craftsman Lance Racoma took his love for the blue and white aku and meshed the colors together with his mastery of concrete, stone, and epoxy to create this ocean inspired fin.
