Aim Higher

From writer, political cartoonist, and bestselling author Henry James Garrett comes a bold collection of prescriptions for living: rejecting the false courage peddled by contemporary “thought leaders” and manosphere gurus to instead embrace a life of joy, moral conviction, and true courage.   The dominant strands in contemporary self-help rest on individualism: they suggest that you could better yourself by looking out for number one and brushing off others' opinions and needs, or that you are an infinitely perfectible machine who could finally win the competition of life if you only had the right regimen of habits. But missing from these offerings is any true ambition. For it’s far more challenging to get to “the top” when you’re committed to bringing everyone with you. Building on his background in philosophy, author Henry James Garrett dismantles the myths of power, achievement, and masculinity that have set so many people up for failure and offers a better path.   In bold, unapologetic terms, Garrett makes the case for actually worthy aspirations: Loving yourself exactly as you are today so you can make meaningful change tomorrow. Experiencing how good it feels to reconcile what you believe and what you do. Putting your body in the line against straightforward moral atrocities. Being dependent and depended on. And taking sheer, unadulterated pleasure from biting into an apple.    With 70 principles for living a life you truly enjoy and helping create a better world, Aim Higher will challenge you to determine who you desire to be, and then it will offer you the tools to realize even grander ambitions.
