Agelio Batle / Small Object

The Small Graphite Objects are handmade in Agelio and Delia Batle’s San Francisco Bay Area studio. Each intricate pencil sculpture is functional, beautifully detailed, and will not stain your hands. Each is packaged in an elegant gift box with Batle Studio literature, and measures approximately size of 4" to 4.5" long. Inspired by his reverence of Nature, and informed by his formal studies in Art and Science, artist Agelio Batle has created this innovative sculptural writing implement. Natural graphite and smudge resistant compounds are fused in specialized forms under intense pressure. Handcrafted, using new and old world techniques, each piece is meticulously fashioned using the innovative methods that Batle originated. Any part writes, while it resists staining your hands. Natural Graphite Measures approximately 4" - 4.5"tall ------ As I go about my normal day, I find myself attracted to anomalies: oddities of circumstance or material that snap me out of my “routine”.  For me, routine is complacent; a slow death. I think of art-making as cultivating a specialized anomaly. First, I rummage out objects that are part of my “routine”. They can be anything, really. I particularly revel in taking aim at things that are unquestioned fixtures, self-assured maybe, but mundane. Then, I zero in on a quality that might expose a “kink in the armor”.  With a playful attitude, I’ll add something to it, or take something away, in order to reveal its paradox. That object, which had previously affirmed the “routine”, might now divulge a transcendent irony.
