AD Rattray 14-year 2012

Experience the masterful union of a robust Speyside spirit and a potent sherry cask with this 14-year-old Benrinnes. Bottled by A.D. Rattray at a commanding 110.4 proof, it's a testament to un-chill filtered, single cask excellence, promising an opulent and unforgettable dram. Tasting Notes Nose: A sophisticated ballet of dark dried fruits, fig newtons, and rich oloroso sherry notes immediately greet the nose, intertwining with hints of polished antique wood, faint leather, and a whisper of roasted nuts. Beneath the sherry's embrace, there’s a distinct malt presence, accompanied by subtle spice rack elements like nutmeg and a touch of cinnamon, and a lingering suggestion of dark chocolate. Palate: The cask strength delivers a powerful, yet remarkably smooth and coating mouthfeel. The sherry influence is profoundly evident, washing over the palate with layers of stewed plums, mission figs, and dates. This is beautifully balanced by a backbone of rich malt, dark honey, and a gentle oak spice that evolves into complex notes of espresso bean, caramelized sugar, and a comforting warmth. A subtle salinity and mineral note from the Benrinnes distillate peeks through, adding depth. Finish: Long, luxurious, and evolving. The sherry character persists, showcasing dried fruit and a pleasant tannic grip that doesn't overwhelm. Sweet baking spices like allspice and clove emerge, along with a lingering cocoa bitterness, and a warming alcoholic glow that slowly fades, leaving recollections of aged oak and a hint of smoked almond.
