Acorus Ogon

Acorus 'Ogon' (Acorus gramineus 'Ogon') or Sweet Flag is a stunning, low-growing perennial grass-like plant known for its vibrant, yellow-green, variegated foliage that adds year-round color and texture to any garden. The slender, arching leaves provide a bright, golden accent, making it ideal for adding contrast to shade gardens, woodland settings, or along water features. This semi-evergreen plant thrives in USDA Hardiness Zones 5-9 and can grow in both wet and dry conditions, making it highly versatile and low-maintenance. Its compact size, typically reaching 10-12 inches in height with a spread of 12-18 inches, makes it perfect for borders, ground covers, or container plantings. Acorus 'Ogon' is particularly well-suited for moist, boggy areas, rain gardens, or along the edges of ponds and streams, where its tolerance for wet soil sets it apart from other ornamental grasses. It also performs well in consistently moist garden beds, providing a lush, golden accent throughout the year. Its unique variegated foliage is attractive in both full sun and partial shade, offering great versatility for different garden conditions. The plant also produces small, inconspicuous greenish flowers in late spring, adding subtle interest without detracting from its showy leaves. Low-maintenance and deer-resistant, Acorus 'Ogon' requires minimal care once established, thriving with little need for fertilization or pruning. Its clump-forming habit ensures it stays well-behaved in the garden, while its striking color makes it an excellent companion for hostas, ferns, and other shade-loving perennials. Whether used as a ground cover, in containers, or in water features, Acorus 'Ogon' adds year-round visual interest with its vibrant foliage and reliable performance in a variety of landscape settings.
