Acorus 'Ogon' - 3.5 inch Pots (Minimum Quantity: 25 Plants)

Acorus ‘Ogon’, commonly known as Golden Variegated Sweet Flag, is a striking ornamental grass-like perennial prized for its vibrant golden-yellow foliage. Native to wetland areas of East Asia, this plant thrives in moist soil or shallow water, making it an excellent choice for water gardens, pond edges, or rain gardens. Unlike true grasses, Acorus ‘Ogon’ belongs to the Acoraceae family and features narrow, arching, sword-like leaves that bring a soft texture and dynamic color contrast to the landscape. Its evergreen foliage remains attractive year-round in mild climates, while in colder regions, it dies back in winter, returning with fresh growth in spring. In summer, it may produce small, inconspicuous greenish flowers, though its primary appeal lies in its stunning foliage rather than its blooms. Aside from its visual appeal, Acorus ‘Ogon’ is a resilient and low-maintenance plant with a natural resistance to pests and diseases. It tolerates a range of conditions, from full sun to partial shade, though its golden hues are most vibrant with adequate sunlight. Due to its clump-forming habit and slow spread, it works well as a ground cover, in container plantings, or as an accent plant in rock gardens. Additionally, its aromatic leaves emit a subtle, pleasant fragrance when crushed, adding another layer of sensory interest. With its adaptability, easy care, and unique coloration, Acorus ‘Ogon’ is a fantastic choice for gardeners looking to brighten up damp, shaded, or water-adjacent spaces. Beside being beautiful, Japanese Sweet Flag is also known to possess medicinal qualities, to wit, for pain relief, antibacterial, antifungal, treatment of recurring fevers and rheumatic ailments, relieving gas, for heart ailments, reduces muscle spasms, promotes sweating, sedative, improves digestion, and treats intestinal worms. Tips on Acorus Planting and Care Comments: Japanese sweet flag is native to wetlands of eastern Asia, and can be grown in similar environments in Zones 6-9 in the United States. At the very least, it requires very moist soil. It thrives in wetlands, like along ponds or pools, and can even grow when submersed in up to 4 inches of water. If you grow it out of its natural aquatic element, it must be watered frequently. If the soil dries for even a day the leaves will suffer. Given this requirement, it appreciates partial shade to full shade, especially in hot climates. Minimum quantity for this plant is 25. We can not ship this item to Alaska, Arizona, California, Hawaii, Nevada, Oregon and Washington.
