How Acclaim Extra Works Acclaim Extra is a selective herbicide, meaning that it targets specific grassy weeds without harming other plants. It's also a post-emergent herbicide, so it's perfect for killing and controlling weeds that are already established in the turf. It contains fenoxaprop-p-ethyl, a chemical that disrupts the weed's cellular growth. It causes visual injury to the weeds in less than 10 days and offers control in less than 21 days. Where to Use Acclaim Extra Herbicide Use Acclaim Extra herbicide for post-emergent grassy weeds in areas where they're choking out the turfgrass. Keep in mind that Acclaim is recommended for use on annual grass weeds; it's not made to control broadleaf weeds. Use it in residential backyards to keep crabgrass from taking over the lawn. Apply it on commercial landscapes to keep sandburs and foxtails from taking over. It's ideal for use on cool-season grasses such as Kentucky bluegrass and fine fescue. It can also control grassy weeds on warm-season turf like zoysiagrass. Target Weeds Acclaim Extra selective herbicide kills grassy weeds and suppresses certain grassy species, such as Bermudagrass. It kills both smooth and large crabgrass and chokes out goosegrass from healthy turf. It works on seedling Johnsongrass while killing and controlling sprangletop and stiltgrass. When applied to these grasses, they begin to turn yellow in about four days. Some injury, such as leaf reddening, also occurs in the target weeds. Weed death happens soon after.
