He has become world famous in the paddling community.  His passion, drive, and desire to teach and learn and give can be felt in everything he is part of.   This first canoe designed by Danny Ching is Named AC/DC, in honor of both Danny Ching and his Father Al Ching. COMFORT, SPEED, CONTROL  The AC/DC effortlessly cuts through water and carries great momentum between strokes. The AC/DC was designed as a flat water canoe below the waterline, with rough water canoe elements added above the water line.  The narrow hull and longer waterline offer little resistance during each stroke, reducing paddler fatigue and increasing glide in flat conditions and most moderate ocean conditions.  The canoe widens quickly above the water line right under the seat, creating reserve buoyancy used in rougher conditions.  In small surf, or downwind conditions, this allows the canoe to lift under your seat, giving you a very natural feel for catching waves.  The rudder placement and rocker placement work together to increase waterline and glide, while keeping maneuverability and steering control. WORKING TOGETHER The AC/DC hull has 3 major components that work together to help a paddler create maximum acceleration when needed, and carry lots of glide after each stroke. The goal is for all 3 of these components to work as one in order to give you the best experience possible. 1)The Hull Design 2)The Nose Design 3)The Tail Design.   Hull Design  The Hull is very narrow starting from the nose and widens slowly at the waterline.  This allows the front of the boat to effortlessly cut through the water, creating very little resistance at the start of your stroke.  The 20 feet 4 inch long canoe carries a long water line with little rocker throughout the middle of the canoe.  This encourages glide after each stroke and helps create that light feeling in between each stroke.  As the hull reaches the cockpit, volume is added under the feet just above the waterline while keeping the hull narrow just below the water line.  This helps minimize drag during your powerphase in flat water and still allows for increased lift should you catch a wave and the nose starts to try and pearl.  In flat water this also makes the canoe feel lighter during your powerphase, allowing you to easily maintain rhythm and speed for longer durations.  Finally, the widest part of the canoe is strategically placed to help the tail lift easily and naturally after each stroke and in the surf.  This helps prevent waves from swamping the tail on bigger days and promotes catching waves easily.  Nose Design  The AC/DC take elements from my time racing Surfskis, OC1s, and OC6s.  The Tall Nose Design is pulled in tight on the hull and widens quickly above the waterline.  This Nose Design helps the canoe stay dryer in rough conditions, and also helps raise the bow when catching waves to prevent pearling, yet still allows the nose to cut effortlessly through flat water.  By adding a small flat spot to the hull under your feet I was able to add extra volume to the front of the boat to help lift the nose during surfing, without having to widen the hull significantly, which most paddlers feel as resistance during the first half of their stroke.  Tail Design  The AC/DC has a tail that resembles more of a V1 then your typical OC1 design.  The inspiration comes from my time spent racing V1s and having to steer and maneuver a canoe that didn’t have a rudder.  The goal of the tail design is to help carry and glide, yet still release the canoe after each stroke so it can be easily steered.  By carrying less rocker through the middle of the hull, I was able to create more carry and glide for each stroke, resulting in a smooth, light feeling at the end of each stroke.  By adding in a late tail rise in conjunction with moving the standard rudder placement further forward and adding reserve buoyancy in a few secret locations (Under your seat :-P) I was able to keep the canoe loose and maneuverable in waves.  This Tahitian V1 inspired tail deserved a Tahitian inspired look.
