Aberlour 16 Year Double Cask Matured Speyside Single Malt Scotch Whisky 750ml

Aberlour 16 Year Double Cask Matured is a richly sherried Speyside single malt drawn from the Aberlour Distillery, founded by James Fleming on the banks of the River Spey in 1879. After sixteen years of patient maturation in a combination of traditional American oak ex bourbon casks and Spanish oak Oloroso sherry butts, this expression brings together the orchard fruit and vanilla character of bourbon wood with the deeper raisin, plum, and spice signature of sherry maturation. Bottled at 40% ABV in the US 750ml format, it sits between the Aberlour 12 and the flagship Aberlour 18 in the distillery's core range, offering older stocks at an approachable strength built for slow, contemplative sipping. The 16 Year offers deeper sherry influence, more pronounced dried fruit, and a longer finish. Where the 12 leans bright and approachable, the 16 leans richer and more contemplative. If you want to step up further, the Aberlour 18 Double Cask takes the same profile to its full expression. Why is Aberlour 16 bottled at 40% ABV? The current US release is bottled at 40% to deliver a softer, more approachable pour. Earlier batches were released at 43%, so ABV may vary by year of bottling. What is the best way to drink Aberlour 16? Neat in a Glencairn or tulip glass at room temperature. A few drops of water can help open the nose and reveal subtler vanilla and oak notes.
