A Light Worth Waiting For — Inspired by the book of Malachi

Some things are hard to wait for. Some things you wait so long for that the people around you stop believing they will ever come. Liv knows that kind of waiting. Her brother has been gone for years. Liv cannot hear. She never has. But she has never needed sound to understand her family. She reads them by watching, the way Jesse taught her when she was small, the day he put a little bronze mirror in her hands and showed her how to catch the light. Then one evening a man comes walking up the road, and Liv is the first to see him. Jesse has come home, and he is different. He carries the words of a prophet named Malachi and a promise that a great light is coming into the world. The family hears him and does not believe. But Liv watches her brother's face the way she watches everything, and faces tell the truth. A Light Worth Waiting For retells the closing promise of the Old Testament, drawn from the book of Malachi, through the eyes of a child who sees what everyone around her misses. It is a story about being truly seen, about holding on to hope when no one else will, and about the quiet truth that the one the world overlooks is sometimes the first to recognize the light. It is a story about waiting, and about a promise worth every moment of it. A gentle, unhurried picture book for ages 4 to 10, made to be read slowly and treasured for years.
