Each pair of closed-back headphones combines solid walnut wood ear cups, cast zinc hardware with deep gold finishing, and precision-engineered 40mm dynamic drivers. The result is a closed-back, over-ear headphone that balances audiophile-grade technical performance with the organic warmth and musicality that made the original an instant icon. Celebrating 10 years since the iconic original, the 2nd generation 99 Classics features meaningful acoustic and engineering enhancements while preserving the natural, musical character that made them legendary. The new 2nd generation pair of headphones retains the instantly recognizable silhouette and handcrafted character, but introduces 10 refinements, including balanced, more versatile tuning and modern additions like a USB-C DAC/AMP and fully recyclable packaging. Together, these updates elevate detail retrieval, spatial precision, and comfort—while ensuring long-term serviceability. Refined Tuning Direction: Balanced, neutral target with engaging yet controlled bass, allowing mids and treble to shine with greater clarity compared to the original’s warm V-shape Improved driver matching: Advanced algorithms reduce inter-driver variance for enhanced stereo imaging, accuracy, and consistent performance across all pairs Increased Ear Cup Size: Subtle internal enlargement shifts resonances downward, improving low-frequency control while creating more space for ears during extended wear Improved Acoustic Sealing and Bass Port: Precision sealing at all key junctions (baffle-cup, PCB-jack shell, jack shell-cup, ear pad-baffle) paired with a dedicated vent in the jack shell provides precise tuning, left-right consistency, and higher unit-to-unit reproducibility Re-engineered Baffle Architecture: More open grille design with streamlined structural beams reduces diffraction and high-frequency artifacts for cleaner sound New Ear Pad System: Adjusted shape refines midrange balance; secure 6-point clip-in system maintains fixed orientation for consistent frequency response and effortless replacement Improved Sound Technicalities: More precise spatial presentation with clearer imaging, separation, and soundstage definition Enlarged Input Socket: Now 7 mm diameter, ensuring compatibility with a wider range of aftermarket audio cables and a secure connection Upgraded Stock Cable: 1.8 m dual-twisted Kevlar-sheathed OFC conductor with soft flex PVC and 3.5 mm jack for durability and tonal transparency Modern Portability Adapters: USB-C DAC/AMP dongle delivers optimal performance with smartphones and laptops lacking headphone jacks, plus a 6.3mm gold-plated adapter for studio equipment (DAPs, amplifiers, DACs, etc.) Handcrafted Excellence: Thoughtful Design in Every Detail The Meze 99 Classics V2 Headphones exemplify craftsmanship. Each solid walnut wood ear cup is CNC-machined for precision, then hand-finished and polished to reveal the wood's natural strength, rich color variation, and elegant grain patterns. No two pairs are identical–the organic beauty of real wood ensures your headphones are truly one-of-a-kind. The cast-zinc hardware features a deep gold finish that complements the warm walnut tones while adding structural resilience. This premium metal construction is entirely void of plastic, creating a timeless aesthetic and durable build quality that improves with age. Comfort remains a hallmark of the 99 Classics design, thanks to Meze Audio's signature self-adjusting headband fitted with vegan leather and spring steel. The ability to automatically conform to any head shape ensures effortless, pressure-free wear during extended listening sessions. The detachable ear pads use soft vegan leather over medium-density memory foam, now with an innovative 6-pin clip-in system that ensures perfect alignment for consistent acoustic performance. Easily attach, remove, and replace the ear cups for years of use and serviceability. Modern functionality meets heritage design with the included compact USB-C DAC/AMP, addressing today's reality where many smartphones, tablets, and laptops have eliminated traditional headphone jacks. Connect via USB-C for optimized audio quality from any modern device. How to Use Acoustic Absorbers (Optional Warmer Tuning) For those seeking a sound closer to the original 99 Classics Headphones' sound signature, the 2nd Gen comes with a set of acoustic absorbers, allowing you to shift the balance towards a warmer signature. Simply detach the ear pads from the cups, place the absorbers in the allocated slots on the baffle plate, reattach the ear pads, and enjoy! Detach ear pads using the clip-in mechanism Place foam absorbers in allocated slots on the baffle plate Reattach ear pads with secure 6-clip system Enjoy the warmer, bass-forward signature of the original Switch between tunings anytime in seconds - no tools required.
