An exceptional pair of vintage drop earrings - large oval Mozambique garnets at the top, engraved gold panels at the middle, smaller diamond-flanked garnets, and long gold rope-chain tassels at the bottom. Solid 14K yellow gold throughout, 23g for the pair. The top stones are oval Mozambique garnets at 20 x 30mm each (29.92ct combined, C grade - color over clarity at this scale). Below sits a striped engraved 14K yellow gold panel with a dark inset accent, then a smaller oval Mozambique garnet (14 x 10mm, 11.6ct combined for the pair, B grade) flanked by 4 round-cut diamond accents per earring (8 total, J color, 0.08ct combined). At the bottom of each earring, a long elaborate gold rope-chain tassel with sculpted gold cap. Movement and presence in equal measure. An estate piece for the collector who knows what 30mm garnet ovals represent. Mozambique garnets at this scale are not modern production - they come from older sourcing eras when stones of this size were more available. The tassel construction adds drama and length. Garnets are typically cut in smaller carat weights for jewelry use. Stones of 30mm length are extraordinary - they come from older mining eras and aren't typical production. The pair represents a serious sourcing find. What does "C grade" mean for the center garnets? The grade reflects color saturation and clarity at this size. At 30mm length, lighter color saturation is expected - the depth of red shifts with thickness. The stones are graded on their own scale, not directly comparable to diamond clarity. How do I care for these earrings? Garnet is Mohs 7-7.5; clean with warm soapy water and a soft brush. Avoid ultrasonic cleaners. Store flat in a soft pouch - large stones can be more vulnerable to chips and scratches than small ones.
