Brand: Atlas Part #: 751 - 50001077 Description The fast-growing popularity of shipping containers during the 1970s led to new rail cars for carrying them. The standard cars at the time were full plate-deck 85' and 89' flatcars with 70-ton capacity trucks. However, the 20' container of the era could carry as much as 25 tons, limiting a car to just two fully loaded containers per trip. To increase efficiency, new flat cars with open decks and 100-ton trucks were placed in service and eventually used for moving trash in specialized containers.  This 85' model follows the open-deck flat design commonly seen in trash trains around the US, but they're also used for standard container service. Each features an open-deck, true scale dimensions with accurate details, weighted and detailed underframes, 100-ton trucks with free-rolling metal wheels and accurate painting and printing.
