8″ Forged Steel Wheel – Model 150 Rigid Caster

Rigid Casters 150 are used in conjunction with the same plate swivel caster. Plate Caster Model 150s usually have 4” wide wheels with a 1 1/4” diameter axle. The mounting plate is 5/8” thick. The leg thickness is 1/2”. These specs are designed to handle the most arduous caster tasks. Rigid Model 150 plate casters are moved with mechanically powered equipment. All of our frames are zinc plated for rust protection and wheel bearings have a grease fitting. Rigid casters are used to control the direction machine is moved when direct line travel is needed. The same model swivel casters should be connected nearest the push handle or tow bar. Since rigid casters can not move sideways, you must select swivel casters for maximum movement in enclosed space. *This Plate Caster Model 150 contains the Forged Steel Wheel. Unbreakable Forged Steel Wheels: Engineered for Heavy-Duty Industrial Performance Our forged steel wheels, available in 8-inch, 10-inch, and 12-inch diameters with a 4-inch width, are designed for the Model 150 heavy-duty industrial kingpinless caster, available in both swivel and rigid configurations, rated for up to 20,000 lbs per caster under ideal conditions. Equipped with precision bearings, these industrial casters excel in demanding environments such as manufacturing, steel mills, and heavy equipment transport. With an 83,000 PSI tensile strength and Rockwell B 89-93 hardness, the Model 150 forged steel wheel delivers unmatched durability and reliability for heavy-duty industrial applications. What Makes Forged Steel Wheels So Strong? Forged steel wheels for the Model 150 heavy-duty industrial caster are crafted by heating high-carbon steel (ASTM 1045) to over 2,000°F and shaping it under extreme pressure. This forging process aligns the steel’s grain structure, creating a dense, uniform wheel that resists cracking, deformation, and wear. The result is an industrial caster wheel with exceptional strength and toughness, capable of withstanding abusive conditions like shock, impact, and heavy loads in industrial settings. What Are Forged Steel Wheels Best Used For? The 8-inch, 10-inch, and 12-inch diameter forged steel wheels for the Model 150 heavy-duty industrial caster are ideal for rugged industrial applications requiring robust load-bearing capacity. Key uses include: Manufacturing: Powering the movement of large machinery, dies, or presses in factories where high loads and frequent movement are standard. Steel Mills: Transporting heavy steel rolls or equipment, as seen in case studies requiring industrial casters for loads up to 200,000 lbs total. Heavy Equipment Transport: Supporting trailers or dollies for moving oversized machinery in logistics or construction, leveraging the kingpinless design for enhanced maneuverability. Aerospace: Handling ground support equipment or large components like engine stands, where the stability of an industrial caster is critical. The wheels’ precision bearings (available as roller or tapered options) and kingpinless swivel design ensure smooth operation and reduced effort when turning under heavy loads, making these industrial casters suitable for manually moved or mechanically powered equipment at speeds up to 3 mph. Are Forged Steel Wheels Worth the Higher Price? Forged steel wheels for the Model 150 heavy-duty industrial caster come with a higher upfront cost compared to cast iron or polyurethane alternatives. However, their superior durability and longevity make them a cost-effective choice for industrial applications over time: Reduced Maintenance: The forging process and high tensile strength minimize wear, reducing the need for frequent replacements of these industrial casters. Efficiency: Using less steel than wider alternatives, these wheels maintain high capacity while cutting material waste, lowering long-term costs. Reliability: With a 20,000 lbs capacity per caster, they handle demanding tasks in harsh industrial environments, preventing costly downtime or equipment failure. For industries like manufacturing or steel mills where reliability is critical, the investment in forged steel wheels for these heavy-duty industrial casters pays off through extended service life and consistent performance. More Info on Forged Steel Wheels: The Backbone of Heavy Duty Industrial Casters Forged steel industrial caster wheels excel in heavy-duty applications where standard floor-protective wheels fall short. These wheels are designed for extreme conditions, handling massive loads and harsh environments with ease. When your operation demands durability over floor preservation, forged steel wheels are the ideal choice. They are built to withstand intense stress without compromising performance, making them perfect for industries requiring robust solutions. Unlike softer wheels, these are typically used on steel plates, in metal channels, or as V-groove wheels on inverted angle iron tracks to prevent damage to factory floors. Their ability to endure tough conditions ensures reliable performance in the most demanding settings. These wheels boast exceptional ductility and tensile strength, allowing them to absorb shocks and impacts without breaking. Forged from pre-heated carbon steel billets through a drop-forging process, they offer uniform material thickness and superior load-bearing capacity. Available in widths of 2 inches, 3 inches, and 4 inches, and diameters ranging from 6 inches to 12 inches, they cater to a variety of industrial needs. Each wheel includes a lubrication fitting in the hub for easy maintenance and longevity. Additionally, Caster City equips these wheels with tapered roller bearings, counter-bored on both sides of the hub, to maximize capacity and service life. With load ratings determined solely by bearing capacity, these solid, spokeless wheels are virtually unbreakable in normal use. Forged steel wheels are engineered for extreme environments, capable of operating at temperatures up to 700°F, depending on the application. However, at continuous temperatures above 400°F, steel roller bearings and spanner bushings may begin to anneal, potentially affecting performance. For high-temperature applications, consult Caster City’s engineering team at 800-501-3808 for tailored guidance. While these wheels may damage most factory floors under heavy loads, their use on steel plating or specialized tracks ensures both functionality and floor protection. For heavy-duty tasks requiring unmatched strength and reliability, forged steel industrial caster wheels from Caster City are the go-to solution.
