Lapis Lazuli Birds, Eagle With Eaglet by Hiram Peynetsa

A high grade lapis eagle carved by Hiram Peynetsa with its wings spread in flight and its eaglet perched on a rock right behind it - both with turquoise inlaid eyes. This carving was conceived to create an impact - with a turquoise healing heart line placed on the outstretched wings of the parent raptor with a mother-of-pearl, turquoise, jet and apple coral Zuni sun face inlaid just above it. On the opposite side where the eaglet prepares to launch - there is a large mother-of-pearl moon inlaid just above it. Both birds have feather rows incised on the wings and tails that create depth. The rock just below both birds has geometric patterns incised in low relief - that represent heart lines. An eagle with its eaglet symbolizes the sacred duty of guidance, the transmission of profound vision and higher truths to the next generation, and the protective bond of family under the watchful spirit of the Sky. The sun face is an ancient symbol in Zuni culture, representing the sacred Sun Father. The symbol's round motif depicts the Sun with a forehead split down the middle to reflect the eternal balance between sunrise and sunset. To the Zuni, the sun face represents prosperity, happiness, peace, hope, optimism, and positive energy. Artist: Hiram Peynetsa (signed) Size: 7/8 in. wide x 2-1/4 in. long x 4-7/8 in. tall #64983
