Picasso Marble Bird, Eagle by Michael Coble

A rather large prominent gray, black, brown and cream streaked Picasso marble eagle with turquoise inlaid eyes carved by Michael Coble perched on a log. There are incised arcs depicting feathers as well as incised lines representing feather rows. The feet are carved in low relief on the log and the height of the log allows the tail to flow downwards. Eagle medicine helps man to gain perspective of self - namely in panoramic vision. The Zuni believe the creator made the eagle to be a teacher for mankind - and due to their ability to fly the highest; they can send our prayers to the great divine.
