Cedar Medicine Bear by Herbert Halate

A plump, sweet smelling light and dark streaked cedar medicine bear with turquoise inlaid eyes carved by Hebert Halate standing upright on its hind legs. Herbert has incised fur all over the bear's body - excluding the bear's eyes and snout - creating a lovely smooth focal point where the eyes can rest. Sinew holds a large white marble and long and lean rounded turquoise arrowhead to the bear's back. The Zuni believe the Creator made the bear to be a guardian for mankind. The Zuni tribe view the bear as a powerful symbol of healing, protection, strength, and introspection. As the designated guardian of the West, the bear is considered a vital spiritual guide and is a source of wisdom during times of change and transition.
