Travertine Mountain Lion by Peter Gasper, Jr.

A grayish cream, red sienna, brown and orange veined travertine mountain lion with turquoise inlaid eyes carved by Peter Gasper Jr. Peter has carved the tail in the traditional Zuni style wrapping lyrically over the back then he added an offering side bundle featuring a gold-lip arrowhead toped with one turquoise and one apple coral bead with three small pen shell heishi beads surrounding them. For the Zuni, the lion represents the guardian of the north - he is the master hunter, revered for intelligence, prowess and strength of will. The mountain lion enjoys the prestige of being one of the most capable predators, and therefore conveys to man a spirit to refine goals, preserve, and achieve.
