Ammonite Maiden Figure by Rhoda Quam, Deceased

An ammonite maiden figure carved by the now deceased Rhoda Quam - who died in 2012. The fossilized spiral mollusk shell of the cephalopod is utilized on both sides to create a form that reveals two maidens. On one side there is a clam shell inlaid maiden with a larger melon shell faced maiden at the top. On the opposite side, there is a small turquoise face near the base and the larger maiden has a turquoise inlaid face as well. All four maidens wear pendants inlaid with coral and turquoise. There is a turquoise dot inlaid at the center of each spiral. Ammonite is a powerful grounding fossil, valued for enhancing life force energy, promoting stability, and stimulating personal evolution through its spiral, age-old wisdom. It is used to clear negative energy, enhance creativity, and attract prosperity and success. Maiden carvings remind us of abundance, fertility and the power of feminine energy and the corn maiden is venerated in Zuni for giving up her life for the health of the community.
