A small muted pink, maroon, red sienna, gold and yellow ocher veined dolomite horned toad carved by the now deceased Russell Shack with five spikes on the head and turquoise inlaid eyes that look slightly to the toad's left side. Russell sadly died in December of 2021. The lizard has been polished then incised with patterns to depict skin. The middle of the lizard's back has an incised strip running down the center with a triangular and diamond shape left polished then inlaid with two turquoise dots. Russell then incised squiggle shaped texture around the triangle and diamond shapes. The horned toad lizard represents longevity and self-reliance and there's a link in Zuni belief between the horned toad and lightning; deriving from the zigzag spikes and horns found on the head and ridges on the toad's back. Artist: Russell Shack, Deceased Size: 1 in. wide x 2-1/8 in. long x 7/8 in. tall #64533
