Serpentine Frog by Danette Laate

A low-to-the-ground golden cream and grayish black spotted serpentine frog created by Danette Laate with turquoise inlaid eyes placed in between an incised smile. On the center of the back, Danette has inlaid a small turquoise, jet and coral sun face - then she inlaid two turquoise, two coral and two apple coral dots in alternating patterns around the sun face. The sun face is an ancient symbol in Zuni culture, representing the sacred Sun Father. The symbol's round motif depicts the Sun with a forehead split down the middle to reflect the eternal balance between sunrise and sunset. Frogs are the result of water so are associated with the prominence of rain and are used to encourage the growth of crops. Zuni believe the frog is a reminder that we are all the same - development wise - we begin as tiny fishlike creatures in the womb then we evolve from swimmers to creatures of the land. The frogs sings its song reminding us of our watery beginning. Artist: Danette Laate (signed) Size: 1-3/8 in. wide x 1-1/4 in. long x 3/8 in. tall #64530
