Dolomite Bird, Eagle by Melvin Sandoval

A prominent yellow ocher, brown, muted peach and black colored dolomite eagle carved by the abstract artist Melvin Sandoval mounted to a red, peach and maroon colored dolomite arrowhead. Melvin strapped the eagle to the arrowhead with layers of sinew then added an offering bundle to the top of the eagle's back featuring one large turquoise bead surrounded by melon shell heishi and three turquoise tube shaped beads. Note; that a few voids/holes have been left on the eagle's left side near the base in a slightly lighter colored ocher area that has some crystalline sparkle. The Zuni believe the Creator made the eagle to be a teacher for mankind. The eagle is the guardian and master of the sky - revered for its power, strength and dynamic grace.
