Leopard Marble Mountain Lion by Bryston Bowannie

Al arge gray, black, cream, yellow and golden umber colored leopard marble mountain lion with turquoise inlaid eyes carved by Bryston Bowannie. The legs are carved as two simplified forms with great definition around the feet and the tail extends downwards and all along the lion's right side in the round - lent support from the lion's front right leg. There is an offering bundle placed on top of the lion's back with sinew featuring a rough hewn muted turquoise arrowhead topped with three turquoise beads surrounded by pen shell heishi. For the Zuni, the lion represents the guardian of the north - he is the master hunter, revered for intelligence, prowess and strength of will. The mountain lion enjoys the prestige of being one of the most capable predators, and therefore conveys to man a spirit to refine goals, preserve, and achieve.
