White Marble Bird, Swan by Cody Nastacio

A white marble swan with a few gray streaks carved by Cody Nastacio in a floating position with turquoise inlaid eyes and jet pigment inlaid eye liner. Cody also added jet above the swan's beak to give the face definition. The wings are carved basically as one form with incised lines minimally added to the wings to imply feathers and to give feather row definition. Note; Cody left one bit of stone at the base of the swan's beak connected to the body for added support. Swans don't typically figure into Zuni myths though swans are associated with the sky in some tribal traditions, and as with other white waterfowl, swan feathers are considered a symbol of harmony and spirituality.
