Jet Bird, Raven by Melvin Sandoval

A streamlined jet raven carved by Melvin Sandoval looking to its right side. Melvin created a beak on the raven then created a line at the bottom of the raven's wings that defines them wonderfully. Then the abstract carver left a raised V shape on the back side under the raven's neck and created a tail in low relief. The Zuni artists have told Sunshine Studio that ravens are filters and they are messengers of the great mystery; so they represent a change in consciousness. Ravens are the makers of light, thus the raven symbolizes the ultimate creator of all things that existed before the beginning of time.
