Turquoise Turtle by Troy Sice

A prominent brown Cerrillos, New Mexico quarried turquoise turtle carved in a anthropomorphic pose standing upright on its hind legs as it looks to its right side with round Mediterranean coral eyes. The turtle is carved to balance on one hind leg and foot with it's right foot raised as it takes a step. We love the urgency of this carving - this turtle has places to go! Indigenous people recognize the turtle as the symbol of Mother Earth - some Native Americans believe that the turtle contributed to creation because the turtle dove into the primeval waters to retrieve mud to create Mother Earth. The turtle is regarded as a skillful navigator through life's difficulties. Turtle medicine teaches one to go with the flow.
