Black Marble Medicine Bear by Chris Sandoval

A black marble medicine bear with its nose to the ground and turquoise inlaid eyes. Carved by Chris Sandoval - the feet are carved as two simplified forms with a lovely jutting neck - you really feel this bear is sniffing - with the well defined snout. Chris has added one of his fabulous offering bundles to the top of the bear's back with sinew featuring wampum shells surrounding two apple coral beads placed at the center. Wampum refers to beads made from quahog and whelk shells. The medicine bear shape is thought to resemble a cave opening - depicting a bear coming out of hibernation and the pose is the bear sniffing the ground for healing herbs. The bear is endowed with curative powers, strength, adaptability & courage - powers that can influence both the spiritual and physical realm.
