Peruvian Angelite Sea Turtle by Burt Awelagte

A plump Peruvian quarried angelite sea turtle carved by Burt Awelagte looking to its left side with turquoise inlaid eyes. Burt has created the salient forms - namely the shaped fins, the head and shell to let you know this is indeed a turtle. There is a simple offering bundle added a simple bundle to the top of the shell with sinew featuring three turquoise beads surrounding one small mollusk shell. Indigenous people recognize the turtle as the symbol of Mother Earth - some Native Americans believe that the turtle contributed to creation because the turtle dove into the primeval waters to retrieve mud to create Mother Earth. The turtle is regarded as a skillful navigator through life's difficulties. Turtle medicine teaches one to go with the flow.
