Antler Badger by Robert Michael Weahkee

A precious cream colored antler low-to-the-ground badger with turquoise inlaid eyes carved by Robert Michael Weahkee from a piece of burr antler. The burr creates the edge all around the back end of the badger though the front neck to face area is all cream colored. Robert incised a line on the top of the back in the shape of a leaf then he burnished the resulting raised line. Next, Robert added a fantastic offering bundle featuring a large spiny oyster arrowhead topped with beads; featuring rose quartz beads surrounded by six garnet beads. Independent and tenacious; the badger is also a symbol of protection and defense, because the badger is always ready to defend its boundaries. The badger is thought by the Zuni to possess knowledge of herbs so is good to have around when one is dealing with illness.
