Moroccan Septarian Nodule Horned Toad by Loren Tsalabutie

A striking brown fossil cluster horned toad with turquoise eyes and smile placed at one end and a spiky tail at the other. This is a very striking carving with the prominent cream and black spotted fossil placed on top of the toad's back at the center. Loren has incised lines along the edge of the carving along with the horns on the back of the head - then carved the legs and feet in the round underneath. The horned toad lizard represents longevity and self-reliance. There is a link in Zuni belief between the horned toad and lightning; deriving from the zigzag spikes and horns found on the head and ridges on the toad's back. Note: Loren did not carve any ridges on top of the toad's body. Artist: Loren Tsalabutie (signed) Size: 2 in. wide x 2-3/4 in. long x 3/4 in. tall #63121
