A muted pink, mauve, red sienna and orange veined Mexican quarried dolomite mountain lion carved by Melvin Sandoval with a tail that wraps lyrically over the back of the body in the traditional Zuni style. Melvin has utilized sinew to mount the lion to a cream and red sienna veined piece of unpolished dolomite then added a simple offering bundle to the top of the lion's back featuring two smaller azurite/malachite beads surrounding a larger turquoise bead with melon shell heishi added on both sides. For the Zuni, the lion represents the guardian of the north - he is the master hunter, revered for intelligence, prowess and strength of will. The mountain lion enjoys the prestige of being one of the most capable predators, and therefore conveys to man a spirit to refine goals, preserve, and achieve. Artist: Melvin Sandoval (signed) Size: 1 in. wide x 3-1/4 in. long x 1-1/2 in. tall #62512
