Antler And Picture Jasper Maiden by Raymond Tsalate

A plump gray and cream colored antler maiden with pen shell and Mediterranean coral inlaid features carved by Ray Tsalate. The maiden wears her hair up in a Hopi squash blossom whorl style - which denotes that she is single. There are two turquoise dots at the center of the hair whorls and the maiden also has a gold-lip feather in her hair. The maiden wears a necklace composed from twenty hand made dots. The stones used to make the dots are lapis, Mediterranean coral, Sleeping Beauty Mine turquoise, serpentine, variscite and purple Mexican opal to name most, with the pendant created from green fluorite, we believe. The maiden wears a kilt like a robe with vertical and horizontal incised lines inlaid with pipestone, lapis and green serpentine inlaid eyes. Ray told Sunshine Studio that the lines on the kilt are inspired by petroglyphs and they symbolize growth and time. Finally, the maiden is inlaid to a striking brown, golden ocher and brownish maroon veined marble base. The maiden symbolizes abundance, fertility and feminine energy.
