Antler Bird, Hummingbird by Robert Michael Weahkee

A large prominent gray and cream colored antler hummingbird with turquoise inlaid eyes carved by Robert Michael Weahkee with it's beak inlaid into the stamen of a flower, garnering nectar. The carving balances perfectly capturing in antler a necessary task that the hummingbird needs to perform for its survival. Hummingbirds feed every 10 to 15 minutes - visiting 1,000 to 2,000 flowers throughout the day! The bird’s ability to travel freely above the earth, migrate over vast distances and occupy an astonishing array of terrestrial habitats make it a powerful symbol of freedom. The hummingbirds are revered by the Zuni - they consider them messengers who have the ability to stop time.
