Antler Frog by Esteban Najera

A tall gray and cream tinged antler frog perched on a really large mushroom carved by Esteban Najera! Esteban left the base of the horn to give the frog up above stability. The porous gray marrow area has been placed on the top of the frog's back - Esteban even incised rings on it to give depth. The face is the focal point with the eyes carved in relief with slit vertical lines incised in the middle inlaid with jet. Even the webbing on the feet has been detailed to great effect. The mushroom's stem is also in the prominent marrow area on one side - Esteban has even incised the back side of the mushroom on which the frog is perched - quite amazing! The Zuni believe the frog is a reminder that we are all the same - development wise - we begin as tiny fishlike creatures in the womb then we evolve from swimmers to creatures of the land. The frog sings its song reminding us of our watery beginning Artist: Esteban Najera (signed) Size: 1-3/4 in. wide x 2-1/4 in. long x 6-1/3 in. tall #61681
