Picasso Marble Bird, Eagle With Eaglet by Derrick Kaamasee

A large cream, tan and brown Picasso marble eagle carved by Derrick Kaamasee protecting its eaglet. Derrick incised feathers in different patterns all over the eagles' bodies. Both birds have turquoise inlaid eyes with the parent striking a fierce pose - as if it fending off a predator! Animals carved with their offspring infers in stone the dedication it takes to raise a baby - no matter the species. The Zuni believe the creator made the eagle to be a teacher for mankind - the eagle is the guardian and master of the sky - revered for its power, strength and dynamic grace. The eagle has incredible vision so eagle medicine is to look at the comprehensive whole picture of all situations.
