Antler Otter with Fish by Robert Michael Weahkee

A super large antler otter with turquoise inlaid eyes and burnished nose carved by Robert Michael Weahkee to float on its back with its tail raised in the air. The otter wears a necklace composed of lapis and alunite beads surrounded by pen shell heishi with one turquoise bead pendant placed under the otter's neck. A new addition for Robert is the low relief incised fish with turquoise inlaid eyes carved in low relief under each of the otter's front paws - both of the fish stand out because Robert burnished them. What is so lyrical about this carving is how both the head and tail are suspended in space effortlessly. The otter symbolizes the inner child in us all - celebrating joy in life's simple pleasures, passion for the things that your heart desires, and freedom to do what your instincts are telling you.
