Black Marble Bird, Raven by Bryston Bowannie

A black marble raven with turquoise inlaid eyes carved by Bryston Bowannie and delivered to Sunshine Studio by the artist in early August of 2023. The raven is carved to rest on its chest and outstretched wings. Bryston has incised the wings and tail creatively with lines that are descriptive and never repetitive. The Zuni artists have told Sunshine that ravens are filters and they are messengers of the great mystery; so they represent a change in consciousness. Ravens are the makers of light, thus the raven symbolizes the ultimate creator of all things that existed before the beginning of time.
