Serpentine Frog by Burt Awelagte

A large elongated lime and olive green colored serpentine frog with turquoise slit style eyes inlaid to the rounded convex carved eye sockets. Carved by Burt Awelagte, this frog has a lovely offering bundle strapped to the top of its back featuring one coral and two turquoise beads surrounded by melon and pen shell heishi. Frogs are the result of water so are associated with the prominence of rain & are used to encourage the growth of crops. Zuni believe the frog is a reminder that we are all the same - development wise - we begin as tiny fishlike creatures in the womb then we evolve from swimmers to creatures of the land. The frogs sings its song reminding us of our watery beginning. Artist: Burt Awelagte (signed) Size: 5 in. long x 2-1/4 in. wide x 1-5/8 in. tall #60752
