Purisima, Crawstone ( Limestone with Embedded Shells, Baja California, Mexico) Sea Turtle by Burt Awelagte

A large dark olive green purisima, crawstone sea turtle with turquoise inlaid eyes carved by Burt Awelagte. We love the shell inclusions found near the turtle's mouth - they really add depth to the face! Burt has added a fantastic offering bundle featuring two turquoise beads that surround one branch coral bead that is inlaid in an upright position. Indigenous people recognize the turtle as the symbol of Mother Earth - some Native Americans believe that the turtle contributed to creation because the turtle dived into the primeval waters to retrieve mud to create Mother Earth. The turtle is regarded as a skillful navigator through life's difficulties. Turtle medicine teaches one to go with the flow, due to the turtle's proclivity to go with the current.
