Biggs Junction, OR Jasper Bird, Hawk by Chris Sandoval

A fantastic Biggs Junction, Oregon quarried jasper hawk with turquoise inlaid eyes carved in flight with its wings spread wide in an animated pose. Carved by Chris Sandoval, the hawk has sinew wrapped around the bird's neck, then Xhris added a separate sinew 'necklace' featuring one long branch coral bead surrounded by one wompon heishi bead. Biggs jasper is a variety of the mineral jasper - it is a picture jasper - a jasper that exhibits particular patterns and colors - with intricate, shell or layer-like patterns in shades of brown ranging from beige to dark brown. Hawks are divine messengers meant to bring guidance from the heavens to 'ground' the physical world. Every bird has a role in the workings of the Zuni universe.
