Antler Spirit Bird by Raymond Tsalate - Zuni Fetish

An antler spirit bird carved by Ray Tsalate with lapis inlaid wings and eyes. The Zuni men collect the feathers of blue birds to create their prayer bundles so we think this is why Ray called this carving a spirit bird. Every bird has a role in the workings of the Zuni universe. The bird’s ability to travel freely above the earth, migrate over vast distances and occupy an astonishing array of terrestrial habitats make it a powerful symbol of freedom.
