2" Begonia maculata

Begonia maculata, or Polka Dot Begonia, is an eye-catching houseplant known for its striking, asymmetrical leaves with distinctive silver spots on a dark green background. The leaves are elongated and have a slightly serrated edge, creating a beautiful contrast with the undersides, which are a red or burgundy hue. This begonia is also popular for its lovely clusters of small, white flowers that bloom intermittently. With its unique appearance, Begonia maculata makes an attractive addition to any indoor garden. Care & Growing Condition: Light: Bright, indirect light is best. Too much direct sunlight can scorch the leaves, while too little can hinder growth and cause leaf drop. Water: Water the plant when the top few inches of the soil feels dry. It’s crucial to avoid overwatering, which can lead to root rot. Ensure that excess water drains out of the pot. Humidity: Begonia maculata thrives in high humidity (around 50-70%). If your environment is dry, consider using a humidifier or placing a tray of water with pebbles beneath the pot. Soil: Use a well-draining potting mix. Fertilizer: Fertilize every 4-6 weeks during the growing season (spring and summer) with a balanced, water-soluble fertilizer diluted to half strength. Reduce feeding in the fall and winter months. Pruning: Regularly remove any dead or yellowing leaves to promote healthy growth and air circulation. You can also pinch back the tips to encourage bushier growth. Propagation: Propagate Begonia maculata through leaf cuttings or division. Ensure all cuttings have at least a few leaf nodes for best results.
