Picasso Marble Sea Turtle by Dana Malani - Zuni Fetish

A detailed low-to-the-ground sea turtle carved by Dana Malani in his unique style. This turtle has a unique face - reminding viewers that turtles are reptiles because they are four-legged vertebrates with a cold-blooded metabolism and scales covering their body. Unlike amphibians, reptiles breathe only through their lungs and have dry, scaly skin that prevents them from drying out. Indigenous people recognize the turtle as the symbol of Mother Earth - some Native Americans believe that the turtle contributed to creation because the turtle dove into the primeval waters to retrieve mud to create Mother Earth. The turtle is regarded as a skillful navigator through life's difficulties. Turtle medicine teaches one to go with the flow, due to the turtle's proclivity to go with the current.
